GMAT Score Concordance Table

The GMAT Score Concordance Table is a tool used to compare GMAT scores across different versions of the test, as well as to understand how GMAT scores correspond to scores from other standardized tests, such as the GRE. This table helps admissions committees, test-takers, and educational institutions to interpret and compare scores accurately.

Understanding GMAT Scores

The GMAT is scored on a scale from 200 to 800, with scores reported in 10-point increments. The total score is based on the performance in the Quantitative and Verbal sections. The Analytical Writing Assessment (AWA) and Integrated Reasoning (IR) sections are scored separately and do not contribute to the total score.

  • Quantitative Section: Scored on a scale from 0 to 60.
  • Verbal Section: Scored on a scale from 0 to 60.
  • AWA: Scored on a scale from 0 to 6, in half-point increments.
  • IR: Scored on a scale from 1 to 8, in single-digit increments.

GMAT and GRE Concordance

The Graduate Management Admission Council (GMAC), which administers the GMAT, has provided concordance tables to compare GMAT scores with GRE scores. This is particularly useful for candidates who have taken both tests or for institutions that accept either score for admissions.

Interpretation of GMAT Scores

The GMAT Score Concordance Table provides a way to interpret GMAT scores in relation to the GRE. However, it is important to note that each test assesses different skills and competencies. Business schools may use these concordance tables as a guideline, but they often consider the overall profile of an applicant, including professional experience, academic background, and other achievements.

Percentile Ranks

In addition to the raw scores, GMAT scores are also reported with percentile ranks. The percentile rank indicates the percentage of test-takers who scored lower than a particular score. For example, a GMAT score of 700 might correspond to the 88th percentile, meaning that the candidate scored better than 88% of all test-takers.
